The Problem: Neurotoxicity

The Greater the Stress,
the Greater the Likelihood

*      We will revert to survival mode, choose risky alternatives, and make premature decisions, sabotaging long range considerations.

*      There will be a tendency toward aggression and escape behaviors, leading to interpersonal conflicts.

*      We will be less tolerant of ambiguity, derailing efforts at change.

*      Communication channels will close, generating organizational silos.

*      Creative thinking and innovation will decline, eroding competitive advantage.

*      Fatigue will set in, stifling motivation, increasing presenteeism, and undermining personal and organizational excellence.

*      The incidence of acute and chronic illness will increase, leading to higher absenteeism and escalating health plan costs.

*      Emotional negativity and pessimism will take hold, locking the brain into threat mode, inevitably contributing to higher rates of turnover.

*      We will take stress home, causing family discord, which in turn will compound work stress.

"Some think stress motivates people to perform at higher levels.

This is only true for the first 90 seconds after the shock of a potential failure.

If stress and fear continue beyond this threshold, it will results in a rapid decline in performance.

Make no mistake. A brain under stress is incapable of sustaining peak performance."
